With 4.5 million acres of public lands, it's no wonder Penn's Woods is so popular with outdoorsy types. Our parks, mountains, trails, and countrysides offer unlimited ways to go out and play!
Skiing in PA
Submitted By: Irene N
With the holidays over I need to plan some fun. I'll be taking my family on an extended ski weekend to Sno Mountain and Elk Mountian. We'll stay at a great hotel in Clarks Summitt called the Inn at Nichols Village. It's so clean and big and the staff is super nice. Great deals with the local hotels and restaurants. I love that it's just a short ride from Philadelphia, at only a fraction of the cost to ski in Vermont. The slopes are fantastic! Try White Lighting on Sno.
Women Hunting
Submitted By: Shirley Spahr
*I was having my extra cup of coffee, after the men went hunting. I was still in my nitegown, watching out the window, when I saw 4 or 5 deer passing the cabin. I grabbed my gun and I put a handfull of shells in my pocket. I was trying to load my gun,,shell wouldnt fit. I checked the shell, to my surprise , it wasnt a shell. It was a revlon tube of lipstick. What a shock.

I've been biking competitively almost all my life---I even biked across the country once! Still, with all my experience, I think Pennsylvania is an awesome place to hit the trails.

The Pocono Mountains are all around us—great hiking, biking, you know, outdoorsy stuff. Just off 407 is Lake Lackawanna. You can fish, swim, picnic. It's beautiful. But my choice would be Lake Wallenpaupack. Best lake in PA, if you ask me.

Being in the woods---that's my thing. Hunting is just the excuse! I'm so glad I live in the Pennsylvania Wilds, where the forests stretch for acres and the turkeys are plentiful.
