As the name implies, the meandering Susquehanna River and its tributaries, including
over 100 miles of the Juniata River, have sculpted this region of Pennsylvania.
Home to a tremendous variety of species of fish, this region of waterways is one
of the richest fishing areas in the state. This area isn't only an exemplary fishing
destination, it is an outdoor playground, an area resonating with history and
home to Pennsylvania's largest university, Penn State.
Before you go, visit the Pennsylvania
Fish and Boat Commission
Web site to find the latest about seasons, laws, and licensing, as well as stocking
information.

At
Bald Eagle State Park in Centre County, a 1,730-acre lake offers excellent warm
water fishing. Crappies, blue gills, and large and small mouth bass are the predominant
game fish. Also available are muskies, catfish, yellow perch, and walleye. In addition
to great fishing, the park also affords an entire range of outdoor activities
including swimming, picnicking, boating, water-skiing, hiking, as well as both
primitive and modern camping.
This area, with its scenic vistas, plentiful activities, and accommodations,
is made for the perfect getaway. Why not plan to stay at one of the 48 bed and
breakfasts of the mid-state area? The Pennsylvania Mid-State Bed & Breakfast Association
can help you find the best Bed and Breakfast to suit your needs.

Countless
opportunities exist along the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers for catching just
about every species of fish common to Pennsylvania. To find the fishing getaway
along these majestic rivers that is right for you, contact the Susquehanna Valley
Visitors Bureau or the Juniata-Mifflin Counties Tourist Promotion Agency.
Excellent trout fishing is available in Penns Creek, which flows through Poe
Paddy State Park. Fantastic fly hatches also emerge from Penns Creek. And, fly
fishers will definitely not want to miss the nationally-known Green Drake Mayfly
Hatch in late May or early June.
A trip a little further north from Poe Paddy State Park will bring you to
Raymond B. Winter State Park and Rapid Run, which affords 12 miles of trout stream.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocks Rapid Run regularly during the
season. Additional trout fishing is available along surrounding mountain streams.
